Day 11- Highway 1

Day 11: Highway 1

This morning we were up yet again, bright and early to prepare for the day. Today we drove up the beautiful Highway 1, which was filled with both mountainous and oceanic views.

We made a stop on the scenic highway,  to talk about the history of TWB and how it became the trip it was today.  Back in 1975, the first TWB group of 20 or so, rode down Highway 1, they were at the point in the trip where they felt like family and started arguing more often. Mr. Dennis decided to stop here to talk everything out. Through the years, this tradition has continued.

Today, we stopped at Highway 1 to reflect on the trip. Being at our halfway point, it was great to assess where we’ve been, and to really take in how amazing the trip has been thus far.

Grant gave us the opportunity to share what was on our hearts and express how this trip has changed and helped thus far. People took a bold leap by choosing to speak to the whole group.  There were many genuine and emotional moments as those expressed some of their struggles in their personal lives.

When people were finished speaking, Grant led us in a closing song. As we joined together, we sang a group favorite; ‘Today.’

We hugged, cried some more, peed in the woods, and then we left. Another ‘two hour’ drive to San Fran.

On our way to the city, we ate pizza rolls for dinner. It was quite a struggle. We had a little bit of a catastrophe on the bus with the tortillas!! We RAN OUT OF THEM!!!!! So some of us ate our gourmet pizza rolls on white bread instead, some people thought that it was not that bad, while others were discussed by the thought of it!!!! Meanwhile, on the Miss America van, we didn’t have sauce, so we resulted to turkey, mozzarella, and pepperoni wraps.

Then we arrived at church to sleep. We took THREE minute showers at the YMCA across the street and we are ready to hit the hay!
