Day 2- New Orleans

Day 2- New Orleans

This morning we woke up around 5:30 and packed up our items from the LaGrange campsite. Once the site was cleaned up by our site managers, we hit the road. While most people slept others played cards. People are starting to get more comfortable with each other, and the bus is just getting louder and louder! We took a short drive through the Auburn campus early this morning and even gathered around the sign for a quick picture! After, we took a stop at Wal-Mart to let the cooks get travel breakfast and travel lunch, a few of us even bought items from the Auburn section of Wal-Mart.

After Wal-Mart, we had pop tarts for our breakfast during a two-hour ride to the rest stop at Mississippi. While at the rest stop, Reilly G. shared his research about Mississippi (the state and the river!) He did a great job on the research, making it unique and interesting!

Once we hit the road again, the cooks made our lunch.  We had gourmet PB&J’s with chips and fruit snacks.  They were absolutely delicious and we got to jam (and jelly) out to some great music on the vans!!

After a few more hours on the bus we ended up in New Orleans. We took a brief walk to Jackson Square where we looked at the Mississippi River and the St. Louis Cathedral, one of the oldest in the USA. Carlee presented research on Louisiana, Carter presented on Café Du Monde, Bryce presented on Bourbon Street and Jessica presented on the Mississippi River. We loved hearing interesting facts on all of these cool places! We continued our walk by going to the cute little French bakery; Café Du Monde. At the bakery, some participants ordered coffee to keep themselves awake from the early morning and everyone got Beignets, they were covered with powder sugar and came straight from the hot oven. (yummm!!!) Some of the counselors even blew the powder in our faces, it made for some great pictures!

For the next two hours we got to explore New Orleans and even took an iconic group picture on Bourbon Street, talk about different!! There were people everywhere and we had some super strange places to go. Tonight we traveled to Fontainebleu State Park to bed down for the night. Thankfully, we were indoor in cabins on high stilts. (yay, air conditioning!)

On the way to the campground, all of our dwarf groups are getting together to prepare a performance of “Dixieland Delight” for our nightly Dwarf competitions.

For dinner tonight, the Happys (cooks) made spaghetti and garlic bread. Delicious!  Just walking past the kitchen made all of our mouths water.  After enjoying our fabulous 5-star meal we had our second competition.  Each group put on a performance dedicated to the song “Dixie Land Delight” by Alabama! There was a tie for first place between the Grumpy and the Sneezy group. They both shared unique and funny performances (not as good as the Bashfuls!).  We all listened to the counselors give us some great advice about what’s to come for the trip.  And last, Heather took every groups picture and we were all so tired, apologies ahead of time for the not so energetic looks on all of our faces.  Though we were all very happy because right after taking our picture everyone got their TWB merchandise (aka swag merch!). Tomorrow we travel to San Antonio, Texas. Sending our love back home!

We got lost....just kidding we wanted to see how far we had to travel across the big state of Louisiana today

The Mississippi River

Hi MOM!!!

Trying the delectable beignets from the renowned Cafe Du Monde.  YUUUMMMM! The counselors decided to blow the Powdered sugar on us.

While delicious, the beignets can get a little messy... especially with the help of a strong breeze.

Grant is either telling a cheesy joke or trying to steal a beignet... both are believable options.

Getting "crop dusted" by some beignets!

 Outside of St. Louis Cathedral

The stunning interior of the cathedral.
